Joseph Francis Klaybor, 61, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at his home on Donnell Lake in Vandalia, MI, a place he loved. He was born on June 9, 1957 in South Bend, IN, to the late John S. and Mary (Marger) Klaybor.

On Nov. 2, 1996 at St. Bavo’s Catholic Church, Mishawaka, IN, he married Kristie Werbrouck. He is survived by his wife Kristie and sisters: Jacqueline Klaybor, Mary (Stephen) Pajakowski, and brother John L. Klaybor, all of South Bend, IN, and sister Peggy (George) Weber of Granger, IN.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Gregory Weber, Carol (Jeff) Platz, Adam Pajakowski, Stephanie (Dan) Mulaney, and Thaddeus Pajakowski. Joe was a graduate of St. Joseph High School class of 1975, Holy Cross Junior College 1977, and Indiana University South Bend class of 1979 in the SPEA (School of Public and Environmental Affairs) program, majoring in criminal justice. Through high school and college, he worked part time at Tom Potters Mobil Service Station which led to a lifelong love of maintaining cars, trucks, and boats.

Joe was a Deputy U.S. Marshall for Northern Indiana until his retirement, and then worked for Midwest Energy Company in Vandalia, MI until his illness in 2015. Early in life, Joe was gifted with great physical strength, and was the fitness coordinator for the U. S. Marshals Office. He was a kind and gentle soul who had a love of animals, especially his Labradors, Molly and Shelby.

He was always busy, but he was happiest while enjoying a relaxing boat ride with his wife Kristie and his two dogs on Donnell Lake. Special thanks from the family to Dr. Michael Bishop of the University of Chicago Hospital, Dr. Jose Bufill of Hematology Oncology, and Dr. Michael Strzelecki for their unfailing care and support of Joe through his illness, and his sister, Mary, who donated twice for his transplants. There will be a visitation from 4:00-8:00pm, with rosary at 5:30pm, on Wednesday, Oct.

3, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Thursday, October 4 at St. Thérèse, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, IN. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN.
