Cloa Ida Fay Cook Nottingham , July 25, 1929 — September 18, 2018

Cloa Ida Faye Cook-Nottingham, age 89, of Amity, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. She was born on July 25, 1929 in Amity, the daughter of Rev. Arlie Francis and Lela Buck Francis.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Nottingham and Grady Cook; three sons, Samual Cook, Ronald Cook and Teddy Cook; her daughter, Frances “Beneta” Stenerodden; two brothers, Autry Francis and Lynn Francis; and three sisters, Audrey Barton, Artie Parrish and Edress Cogburn. She leaves behind two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah and Frank Gregorio of Corning, California and Vicki Cook of Amity; sixteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Darrell Francis of Amity; two sisters, Helen Neighbors of South Carolina and Cleta Barrata of Hot Springs Village; and her nieces and nephews. Faye was a retired nurse.

She received her LVN license in California and began her nursing career at Trinity Hospital in Arcata, California. She was there when they moved to their new facility, Mad River Community Hospital. She worked in every department of those hospitals and had enjoyed stating that the only baby that ever wet or messed on her in her entire career was her own grandson, Scott.

When she returned to Amity in 1979, she worked for a short time at the Glenwood Nursing Home before moving to St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center, now CHI St. Vincents. It is also another time that she was involved in moving to new hospital facilities. She was always amazed that somehow they didn’t move any of the cockroaches with them, just the patients and equipment.

She loved reading, flower and vegetable gardening; it seemed she could make just about anything grow. Even after the age of 82, she would get out on her riding mower or tractor, tilling the garden or brush hogging the pastures. Above all other things, she loved her family the most.

She had her teasing wink, smile and laugh, but also, that stern hand when you needed it. She was our rock, our matriarch and always there when you needed her. Her big old house was the resting spot for some of her grandkids and children.

To honor her request, our mother was cremated with no public services of any sorts. There will be a private, family only, graveside service at a later date when her ashes will be placed to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery at Fendley. Arrangements were under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Glenwood.
