Thomson- Mr. Dennis “Craig” Gunby, 68, went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2018 at the Charlie Norwood, VA Medical Center Community Living Center, known as “Heroes Pointe”. He fought a long ten year battle with Parkinson’s disease and Fronto-temporal Dementia. Mr. Gunby was a resident of McDuffie County and the son of the late James Aubrey Gunby and Mary Hamilton Gunby.
He attended Thomson High School and later in life was proud to complete his GED. He worked at Dozier Plumbing and Electric prior to his enlistment in the Army where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the states he regained employment with Dozier Plumbing and Electric until he started his own business formally known as Gunby Industrial Electric.
He later went to work for Thomson Oak Flooring where he worked 14 years until the business closed. He was blessed to find work at Pollard Lumber Company where he worked until his disability in January 2010. He was an electrician by trade, but he was blessed in being able to fix most anything.
He worked with wood and made a beautiful oak blanket chest for his wife. He liked restoring antiques when time permitted. Among his most enjoyable interests was his love for hunting, fishing, flea marketing, and antiquing.
Mr. Gunby was a Baptist by faith and he loved his Lord and Savior. He read his bible faithfully until he no longer could. In his early walk with the Lord he served as Trustee at Second Baptist Church and was a loyal and faithful member for many years.
He later attended Marshall Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Bethany Grace Gunby Morrow, a beloved brother, Freddy Gunby and sister, Vicky Gunby. Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years, Linda Pounds Gunby, Thomson, son, Dennis Gunby (Heidi), of Thomson; brothers, James Gunby (Gayle), Donnie Gunby, Clay Gunby (Brenda), Joe Gunby (Kelly) and Bob Gunby, all of Thomson.
Two grandchildren he adored, Matthew Craig Morrow and Joshua Grayson Morrow; many nieces and nephews he loved; and special sister-in-law Cheryl Mays. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the Westview Cemetery with Preacher Charles Reese officiating. Friends may call at the Curtis Funeral Home.

theaftd.org website. A special heartfelt thanks to Vernon Simons his Vietnam Veteran friend who visited him faithfully and would push him outside in his wheelchair to spend special time together. Mr. Gunby treasured those visits.
