CURTIS DEMPSEY “JACK” ALLEN age 94, of 1412 Beacon Street, Roxboro, NC peacefully passed away Tuesday night, November 6, 2018 at Treyburn Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Allen was born February 5, 1924 in Person County, NC son of the late George Henry & Sally Hicks Allen and was husband of 38 years to the late Dorothy Smith Allen. Born and raised in Person County (Timberlake) Jack was a 1942 graduate of Helena High School.

Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army during WWII where he proudly served with the Second Infantry Division. First reporting to England then France, he was part of the occupation forces in Germany. He soon returned to France awaiting redeployment to the South Pacific when the war suddenly ended in August 1945 after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacks.

He remained in the active reserves until 1949. After his honorable discharge on November 22, 1946, he returned to farm work and was later employed for more than 40 years at the Longhurst Cotton Mill and its successor companies. He was a life-time member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.

He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, especially to his daughter Barbara Lynn Allen whom he devoted his life to after the sudden death of his wife Dorothy in 1983. Surviving are a son, Roger Dale Allen, Sr. & wife, Barbara of Garner, NC, two grandsons, Ryan Blair Allen & wife, Dominique of Durham, NC Roger Dale Allen, Jr. of Garner, NC, great granddaughter, Madigan Avery Allen of Clayton, NC, two sisters, Virginia Allen Morris of Timberlake, NC, Colleen Allen Thomas of Woodstock, VA, daughter-in-law, Dana Poole Allen, two step-grandchildren, Scottie Poole & wife, Michelle, Missy Blume & husband, John, three step-great grandchildren, Damian Pyle, Kaelan Blume, and Garrett Poole. The family would like to also extend a special thanks to his long-time friend, Joyce W. Robertson who was a great comfort to him as his health began to deteriorate.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Allen is preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lynn Allen, son, Larry Darnell Allen, three brothers, Henry Clay Allen, James M. Allen, George McCargo Allen, two sisters, Daisey Allen Evans, and Mildred Allen Evans. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at North Roxboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Durand officiating.

Interment will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Roger Dale Allen, Jr., Ryan Blair Allen, Bryant Morris, Damian Pyles.

Honorary pallbearer will be Madigan Avery Allen. The family extends its heart-felt thanks and appreciation to the staffs of Cambridge Hills Assisted Living, Treyburn Rehabilitation Center, and Amedisys Hospice Care for the kind and compassionate care provided to him over the past four years. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Roxboro Baptist Church, 115 School Street, Roxboro, NC 27573 or to a charity of one’s choice.
