Darlene M. (Torpin) Day, 91 of Grand Island, NE passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at CHI St. Francis Hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 26th at the All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate.

A family service for the burial of ashes will take place at a later date at the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 25th at the funeral home. Darlene was born August 13, 1927 in Hordville, NE.

She was the daughter of Clifford and Vernie (Jones) Quick. Darlene grew up and graduated from High School in Hordville. On August 11, 1947 she was united in marriage to Kenneth P. Torpin.

This union was blessed with six children. She later married Donald L. Day in 1975. Don passed away in 2005.

Darlene worked as a secretary in an insurance office in Central City for several years. After her marriage to Don, she moved to Grand Island and went to work at Shopko for 20 years. She was a member and past Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of the Grand Island BPO Does, served as president and held a national committee office. She enjoyed playing bridge, watching ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and basketball on TV, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and playing Bejeweled Blitz on her computer. She loved spending time with her family more than anything and took special care when needed of her grand dogs.

She loved shopping with her girls and never missed a chance to spend special time with her family. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Terry (Deanna) Torpin of O’Neill, Paul (Valli) Torpin of O’Neill, Julie Billeter of Holdrege, Susie (Mark) Henk of Grand Island and Kendra (Bill) Fox of Shelby, Iowa; grandchildren, Brian, Kylee, Brady, Meredith, Clay, Adam, Grant, Andrea, Eric, Alyssa and Alex; fifteen great-grandchildren, grand dog, Jordy; brother, Dale (Sherry) Quick of Hordville and sister, Doris Erickson of Clark Darlene is preceded in death by her son, Gregory Keith Torpin, granddaughter, Jocelyn Torpin, son-in-law, Steve Billeter and brother-in-law, Roger Erickson. Memorials are suggested to either the Grand Island First Presbyterian Church, Hall County Hero Flight, or the BPO Does Organization.
