Darold Paul Slater, 88, husband, father and friend left this mortal existence on September 20, 2018. Born to Henry and Melba Slater on May 19, 1930 in Ely, Nevada. Darold, along with his 3 siblings grew up in McGill, a small mining town in eastern Nevada.

His passion for flight led him to earn his private pilot’s license and purchase an airplane before he owned a car. Drafted into the Army in 1952, he served in the Korea war. Upon his return, he married Sarah Veoma Winn.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958 from the University of Utah. He and Veoma are the parents of 7 children. Always up for new adventures, much of Darold’s career was spent accepting new employment challenges across the country from Nevada to New York.

He was skilled at working with his hands and could fix or build anything. To his neighbors in Bountiful where he and Veoma lived for over 35 years he was known as “Mr. Fix It” for his willingness and ability to repair any variety of things brought to his workshop. He cherished teaching the 11 year old scouts and held their weekly meetings in his garage where he coached them in practical skills.

Darold loved singing had a powerful bass voice. It was a gift he shared up to his final days on earth. Darold and Veoma have lived in Orem, Utah for the past 4 years.

Darold is survived by his wife of 63 years Sarah Veoma Winn, their daughters and spouses, Debbie & Ken Knapton of Highland, UT, Lisa & Layne Dameron of Gilbert, AZ and sons David & Yvonne Slater of Kent WA, Bruce & Kathy Slater of Forest Hill, MD, Mark & Deb Slater of Colorado Springs, CO and Garth & Aly Slater of Riverton, UT and proceeded in life by son Eric Duane Slater. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Highland 19th Ward chapel, 9621 North 6050 West, Highland where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in Veterans Memorial Park, Bluffdale Utah under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.

Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 72. Condolences may be sent to the family at www. oplinmortuary.com.
