Loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Age 88 years. The son of the late Kenneth and Katherine (Lenick) Shreve, Darwin was born March 27, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post #439, V.F.W. Post #1566 and the Korean War Veterans Association #251. He married Betty Jacobs, his loving wife of nearly 65 years, on August 14, 1954. She survives him.

Upon returning from the war, Darwin was driver/salesman for Robertson’s Laundry and later an agent for Manufacturer’s Life Insurance. Darwin then owned and operated the D.J. Shreve Insurance Agency for many years and continued working even after his retirement. He was a devout Catholic and prayed the Rosary daily.

He was a member of St. Dominic Parish and a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council #4232. Darwin served on the Board of Directors at Catholic Federal Credit Union for over 22 years. He played semi-pro football for the Bay City All Stars.

He also officiated football for the Michigan High School Athletic Association. In 2005, Darwin and his fellow team mates at St. Andrew High School Bulldogs were inducted into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame. Darwin will be remembered for being busy all of the time and spending time at the family cottage at Horseshoe Lake.

In the eyes of Darwin, there was no other football team than the University of Notre Dame. Surviving besides his wife Betty are three daughters and their spouses, Katherine and Terry Hugo, Auburn; Virginia and Thomas Darnell, Saginaw; Maureen Shreve, Auburn; one grandson, Thomas Darnell Jr.; a sister-in-law, Ann Ruppel; brother-in-law, John and Karen Jacobs; several nieces and nephews. Darwin was preceded in death his grandparents, Alice and Edward Daly, and by a sister-in-law, Jean Marie Jacobs.

Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at St. Dominic Parish-St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw in Saginaw. Rev. Fr.

Steven Gavit will officiate and Military Honors will be presented. Private interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit at St. Stephen Catholic Church where the family will be present on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
