David G. Gilpin, 71 years old, passed away at 9:03 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, at the St. Joseph Health Systems, Mishawaka. David was born on December 6, 1947 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Gerald M. and M. Elaine (Davidson) Gilpin. He has lived most of his life in South Bend.

David retired in 2000 after 17 years with Bergen Brunswig in shipping and receiving. He also worked for seven years with Expedited Freight Automotive Parts. David was a graduate of Riley High School and proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

David is survived by his two nieces, Lynn (Rick) Drzewiecki and Lisa (Dan) Englebert, both of South Bend; and nephew, Thomas (Elizabeth) Whitmer of Washington. He is also survived by extended family. Along with his parents, one sister, Jill Whitmer, and one brother, John S. Gilpin, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for David will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be held at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend where he will be laid to rest in the Veteran’s section.
