Deborah Melton Jenkins, 63, of Fletcher, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018, at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Neil and Bessie McCandless Melton. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Phyliss Mahoney; and a brother: Earl Melton.

Deborah worked at Carolina’s Medical Center in the micro biology department in Charlotte, NC until the early nineties. She made the decision to move back to Burnsville to take care of her parents until they passed away. Deborah was very devoted to her family.

She loved animals, rescued many, her dog Scruffy and her cat Calico. They were a comfort to her throughout her sickness. Deborah had many friends and was loved by all.

After her long battle with cancer she was attended to at home, until her death, by her loving and devoted husband, Kurt. Surviving are her husband: Kent Schuster; sisters: Lois Hunt, Barbara Coyne, Ivory Conley and husband, Newman, Linda Thomas, Carolyn King and husband, Benny; and, brothers: Arnold Melton and wife, Ramona, and Dwayne Melton and wife, Regina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 12Noon Saturday, December 1, 2018, in Biltmore Church of God, 1390 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, of which she was a member. Pastor Dale Whitson will officiate. Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery on Bakers Creek Road in Burnsville.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
