Donald E. Peters, 83, of Newton Falls passed on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Having been diagnosed in 1990 with colon cancer and then later with bladder cancer, he was a 28 year survivor, staying active and keeping a positive attitude. Don was born on March 1, 1935 in Coal Grove, Ohio, the son of Oscar and Lillian Wells Peters.

When Don was just a child, the family relocated to Newton Falls, Ohio. He was a 1954 graduate of Newton Falls High School. Don worked for the family business following graduation and then entered into the military, serving in the United States Navy and then the United States Army.

After his military service, Don was an independent steel hauler up until 1988. He would then change his career to owner/operator of Don Peters Excavating. With his expertise in this profession, it was once said that “it was like watching a ballerina on a backhoe”.

His services were sought after and he worked until the end of the work season in October 2017. Don enjoyed traveling, with a favorite winter destination to Fort Myers, Florida. He would relax watching the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

Don and Alberta Jones were united in marriage on November 10, 1956 in the Newton Falls United Methodist Church. They were married for 50 years until her passing on March 14, 2007. Memories of Don will be carried on by his caring and loving family, his daughters, Pam (Frank) Mauric and Lori (Rich) Scheidly; his grandchildren, Trey (Marcy) Mauric, Lauren Mauric, Alex Scheidly and Zack Scheidly; his two great grandchildren, Cambria Mauric and Frankie Mauric and his companion for the past eight years, Liz Jacobs.

Preceding Don were his parents; his wife, Alberta; his sisters, Helen Klaiber and Jerry Morrow and his brothers, Oscar “Jack” Peters, Jr. and John “Lefty” Peters. Friends may call on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls and on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church. A service will follow at noon with Pastor Jeff Lanzer officiating.

The Newton Falls Veterans and the United States Army will conduct a military service to honor Don for his service. Interment will be held in the Newton Township Cemetery.
