Elizabeth “Liz” Welsko, 82, of Newton Falls, OH passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Washington Square Nursing Home. Liz was born on December 14, 1935 in Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Sneg) Speno. Liz was a 1953 graduate of Newton Falls High School.

Early in her life, Liz held many jobs including driving a school bus, beautician, clothing store associate, proprietor of a pizza shop, and was a phenomenal handywoman. She and her late husband, Don, were owners/operators of AMVETS Post 112 for over 25 years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, knitting/crochet, and loved a good laugh.

Liz was a true example of a servant’s heart within her community, serving those in need without hesitation. Her family is the of her greatest pride and joy. Liz was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Mary and Joseph Parish in Newton Falls and recently, of Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Lake Milton.

Loving and fun memories of Liz will be carried on by her sons Don (Christine) Welsko of Milton, GA, Dan (Carol) Welsko of Howland, OH, daughter Jill (John) Casey of Merritt Island, FL, grandchildren Elizabeth Welsko, Danielle Casey, and Rachael (Brett) Turner, and great-grandchildren Jake, Taylor, and Riley Turner. Liz is also survived by her sister Grace Bryant of Lake Milton, OH. Preceding Liz in death was her husband Don, granddaughter Lucia Welsko, sisters Joanne Gregory, Julia Ford, and Helen Perkovich.

Family and friends may call at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls on Friday May 11 from 5 – 7 PM and also on Saturday May 12 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. At 11 AM there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Lakes St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Merzweiler.

Liz will be laid to rest next to her husband Don at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
