James L. Shook, 81, of Newton Falls, passed on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. He was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Lordstown, the son of William and Phoebe McDonald Shook.

James was a 1955 graduate of Lordstown High School. Following graduation, he worked for a time in Cleveland and then obtained employment at General Electric in Niles, from where he retired. While working in Cleveland, he met his future wife, Donna Marie Thompson.

They were united in marriage on Aug. 27, 1961 at Bazetta Christian Church. He enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, attending church camp meetings, listening to southern gospel music,and buying and selling antiques.

James is survived by his children, Steven R. (Beth) Shook and Lynn Peyatt; his sister, Janet (Edward) Krempasky; his grandchildren, John, Thomas, Tiffany, Joshua and Alexis; and his 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding were his wife, Donna; his parents and his siblings, William Shook, Terry Shook and Shirley Anerino. James was a longtime member of the Newton Falls First Church of God, where friends may call 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018.

His son, Steven R. Shook, will officiate at the service, which will follow the visitation. Interment will be in Kerr Cemetery. In memory of James, material tributes can be made to his charity of choice, the Alzheimer Association.
