Donald Joseph Harper, 79, of Quincy, formerly from Golden, IL. and Mt. Sterling, IL.

, passed away peacefully at home at 9:27 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018. Born October 17, 1938, in Brown County, IL. , Don was a son of Leslie and Ruth Byrns Harper.

He attended Benville, Buckhorn, and Mt. Sterling schools. He married Ellen Bowen January 8, 1977, at the First Federated Church in Clayton.

She survives. After high school, Don followed his passion as a farmer until 1988. After retiring from farming, Don drove for Roberts Trucking, American Freight, and Fed Ex.

Don also enjoyed time spent with his family and loved hunting, fishing, and going to farm auctions. Survivors in addition to his wife are his children, Rick (Karen) Harper, Peoria, IL. Cynthia (Edward) Coats , Rushville, IL.

, Julie Vance, Camp Point, IL. , Annette Harper, Los Angeles, CA. , and Gregory Harper, Teutopolis, IL.

; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, as well as step grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Fritzie) Harper, Clayton, IL. ; one sister, Corrine Kassing, Mt. Sterling, IL.

; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John L. Harper; and two sisters, Bette Geisler and Marie Harper. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 14 at the First Federated Church in Clayton by Pastor Kay Daniel.

Burial will follow at South Side Cemetery, Clayton. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Clayton. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
