Donna L Volden , June 27, 1931 — April 26, 2018

Donna Lorraine (Hauser) Volden, age 86, passed away April 26, 2018, surrounded by family at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa. Donna was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on June 27, 1931 to Raymond John Hauser and Lola Pearson Hauser. Donna was raised in La Crosse, where her father was an engineer with Burlington Northern Railroad.

After graduating from high school, Donna attended La Crosse Vocational School (now Western Technical College) and was subsequently employed by Spence–McCord Drug Company, La Crosse. It was during her employment with Spence–McCord that she met her future husband Leland Volden. Lee was a World War II veteran who had recently returned from working as a Geological Land Surveyor throughout the western United States.

Donna and Leland Matthew Volden (Lee) were married on October 18, 1952, in La Crosse and lived on their dairy farm near Viroqua. They raised five children and supported them all through college. Donna and Lee retired from farming in 1990 and moved to a small acreage outside of Viroqua.

During their retirement years, Donna and Lee were active members of Zion Lutheran Church, attended book clubs and social events, and traveled across the country to visit family and friends. Donna enjoyed raising and training her German Shepherds and Golden Retriever. She loved all animals, even her mischievous and un-trainable cat.

She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, and love of family and friends. Donna is survived by her husband, Lee, children, Mark Volden (Vicki), Eric Volden, Cindy Legg (David), Rhonda Storlie (Chris), and Renae Smith (Kevin), as well as fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Joyce Proksch and LaVaune Schmidt.

Funeral Services will be held on April 30th at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Pete Beckstrand officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call on Sunday, April 29th from 4-6 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, and again from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
