Donnie Ray Atwell, 75, of Taneytown died on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 14, 1943 in Ceres, VA, he was the son of the late Alvis Arley and Mary Ann (Cregger) Atwell. He was the devoted husband of Barbara (Glass) Atwell, to whom he was married for 54 years.

Donnie was the owner and operator of Atwell Trucking in Taneytown and previously worked in the Cast House at Eastalco Aluminum Company in Frederick County for several years. He enjoyed mowing and caring for his yard; collecting and restoring vintage tractors, both small and large; riding motorcycles; and watching NASCAR racing. He was a fan of Dale Earhart, Sr. and Kevin Harvick.

Donnie loved and enjoyed the many dogs he had over the years, but most recently his dog Lucy. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Barbara, are sons, Anthony Atwell and Michael Atwell and his wife Rhonda, all of Taneytown; daughter, Angela Bare and husband Dustin of Hanover, PA; sister, June Ellen Russell of Marion, VA; brother, Noel Atwell and wife Julie of Westminster; grandchildren, Holly Croddick and husband Ronald Jr. of Abingdon; Heather Haines of Taneytown; Curtis, Leah and Victoria Atwell of Taneytown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Alvis Duane Atwell; sister-in-law, Geraldine Atwell; and brother-in-law, Carl Russell. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to help defray final expenses may be made to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787.
