Obituary for Doris Kreie Doris June (Carter) Kreie, 85, of Newton, Kansas, passed away Tuesday October 2, 2018, at Newton Medical Center in Newton, Kansas. She was born June 21, 1933, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the daughter of Opal Olive and Etta Alice (Taylor) Carter. Doris was a graduate of Johnson High School and worked as an administrative secretary at the Grant County Recreation Commission, the Ulysses News and Edward Jones.

During her lifetime, she transitioned from being a “wild driver” of sorts – to that “dangerously careful” driver in the front of a line of 150 cars while doing 45 MPH in a 60 MPH zone. Her early driving escapades included taking out the light-pole in the middle of the Bill’s IGA parking lot and a two-car encounter in an intersection with kids in her car holding chocolate pies (yes – chocolate looks a lot like blood at first glance). She was always at the ball games, rooting for her kids, grandkids and other people’s kids – loudly….

. very, very loudly. Doris lived her life loudly, and caringly – there was little doubt what she was thinking, there was little doubt that if she had something and you liked it, she would give it to you.

There was a rumor that Doris liked to play cards – bridge – any type of bridge. Doris married Richard “Dick” Kreie on October 20, 195,2 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2011.

Survivors include four sons, Jeff and wife Sharon of Dodge City, Kansas; Rod and wife Dana of Newton, Kansas; Scott and wife Teresa of Turpin, Oklahoma; Todd and wife Deborah of Ulysses, Kansas; one daughter, Tracy of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; two sisters, Peggy Bruening of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Judy Brougher and husband Phil of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, Bob Carter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three half-sisters, Delores Rae Neal of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Lenore Kay Zumwalt of Edmond, Oklahoma and Ima Jean Lang of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and one half-brother Charlie Carter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. A special thank you to Asbury Park, Newton Medical Center and Good Shepherd Hospice for the loving care they provided during the last few days.

Memorial service will be held at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at the Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Asbury Park (senior living facility) in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Avenue, Ulysses, Kansas 67880.
