Obituary for Joan Hinkle Joan Hinkle, age 80, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Western Prairie Senior Living in Ulysses. She was born April 16, 1938, in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Liston and Harriet (Nirk) Bridwell. Joan moved to Kansas in 1948.

She married Herman Hinkle on April 7, 1956, in Johnson. Joan operated the coffee shop in the Ralsamore Hotel, cooked at a steakhouse, and later became a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital and then a Physical Therapist Assistant at Western Prairie Care Home. Joan loved watching NASCAR, enjoyed fishing, and had crocheted many lap blankets.

Joan is survived by two daughters, Cindy LaFever and husband Greg, and Mary Warren all of Ulysses; brother, Gary Bridwell of Independence; sisters, Darlene Blake of Great Bend, Dorothy Anderson of Ulysses, and Sherry Harris of Mount Juliet, TN; four grandchildren, Tim Hinkle, Nathan Hinkle, Michael Kuhn, and Drew Martin; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; son, Danny Hinkle; great-grandson, Nathaniel Hinkle; brothers, Bob Bridwell and Carl Bridwell; and sisters, Emily Walsh, Patty Jacobs and Kathy Peirce. Graveside service will be Monday, December 3, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 2, 2018, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Lung Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
