Ellwanger, 79, of Chamberlain will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Water of Life Assembly of God Church in Chamberlain. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the memorial services. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Hillview Cemetery at Dallas, SD.

Doris Marie Ellwanger was born January 2, 1940 in Gregory, SD to George and Margaret (Gall) Ellwanger. She was the 7th of 10 siblings. After graduating from school, she moved to Chamberlain to find work.

She first began working at the Rainbow Cafe’ alongside her sister Helen. In 1963, she began working for Frank Lindley Law Office and then in 1972 a new attorney, Boyd McMurchie, took over the office. In 1974, he decided to run for Circuit Court Judge and with that win Doris became unemployed.

She then went to work for Leonard Andera Law Office and later Steve Smith joined the law firm. When Leonard passed away in 2012, Doris continued working for Steve Smith Law Office. She worked for 55 years before retiring at the age of 77 1/2 years.

Doris was a very devoted Christian and was also so happy and go lucky. Her bubbly spirit will be deeply missed! Doris passed away on March 6, 2019 at home in Chamberlain at the age of 79 years.

Gratefully sharing her life are her sisters Ruth McAlister of Spencer, NE, Betty Berry of Yankton, SD, and Lucille Wiedeman of Burke, SD; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Raymond, Robert, and Harlan, and sisters Sarah Orelup, Helen Tunks, and Lorraine Palecek.
