Doris Mary Dohner Cook, 98, rural Industry, died peacefully early Thursday morning, June 28, 2018, at Bickford Cottage in Macomb. She was born on March 6, 1920 in Astoria to David R. and Ethel (Rowland) Dohner. She married Ronald L. Cook on December 31, 1942 in Vermont, IL.

He predeceased her in September, 2017. They were married almost 75 years. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Cook (Dr. Joseph Cusumano) of St Louis, Ramona Cook of Industry, and Linda (Michael) Kuehl of Elgin, grandson, Dr. Michael Cusumano of Springfield, nephews, Mark Dohner of Table Grove, David Dohner of Vermont, and Jim (Ava) Garrabrant of Peoria, nieces, Martha (Lee) Fillingham of Table Grove, Sandra (Jeff) Belden of Columbia, MO, and Barbara (Gary) Bray of Palm Coast, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Robert Dohner and Dr. Russell Dohner, her sisters, Beulah Garrabrant, Lydia Copes Goodwin, Norma Dohner and Clarice Dohner. She graduated from Vermont High School. She was her husband Ronald’s helpmate throughout his career as a coach and teacher.

She was active in Girl Scouts, Parent Teachers Association, and volunteer work. She instilled a love of reading in her children and established a collection of books for pre-schoolers at the Vermont Library. She was a member of Industry United Methodist Church.

She attended the Western Illinois University Alumni Association events that Ronald so loved. She loved gardening and helped make the Cook Farm a showpiece. She was an old-fashioned mother who loved to bake pies, cookies, and big farm meals for her family.

She will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Clugston Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. Burial at Chockley Cemetery after the service. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Western Illinois University Foundation, Ronald and Doris Cook Scholarship Fund.
