Doris Mustard Laws, 94, of Bluefield, West Virginia, died Monday, January 14, 2019, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on November 3, 1924, and was the daughter of Chester Henry and Gladys Middleswart Mustard. Doris was a 1942 graduate of Beaver High School.

She attended Bluefield College before continuing her education at Watts Hospital School of Nursing in Durham, North Carolina, earning a degree in 1946. Doris worked as a registered nurse at Bluefield Regional Medical Center for over 30 years alongside surgeons Dr. Robert Nielson, Dr. James Thomas, Dr. Frederick Barker, and Dr. Randy Lester. After retiring, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins and residents of local nursing homes, playing bridge, and traveling with her family.

She was also an active member of the East River Mountain Garden Club. Friends and neighbors will remember Doris for her love of shopping, chocolate, and quality time and conversations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her her husband of 61 years, James W. Laws, and her sister, Lola M. MacMillan.

Doris is survived by her daughter Carolyn L. Morhous and husband Larry of Bluefield; grandson, Hunter Morhous and wife Natalie of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter Peyton Cline and husband Joshua of Bluefield; and the four joys of her life – her great-grandchildren Wilson Morhous, Crawford Cline, Chandler Cline, and Hailey Morhous. She is also survived by sister Marilyn M. Tinder of Bluefield; brother-in-law Daniel P. MacMillan of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother-in-law Jerry Laws and wife Shirley of Sparta, NC; as well as 3 nieces, 3 nephews, 5 great nieces, and 3 great nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to the compassionate staff at Bluefield Regional Medical Center for the wonderful care Doris received during her illness.

A memorial service will be held at Mercer Funeral Home beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019, with Mr. Craig Hammond officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bluefield Union Mission, P.O.
