Dorothy Caroline Knauer July 27, 1928 – February 15, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Dorothy Caroline Knauer of Charlottesville, VA peacefully completed her earthly journey on February 15, 2019. She was one of six children born to the late Frederick and Dorothy Knauer of McAdoo, PA. She grew up in PA and was a graduate of McAdoo High School.

She lived most of her life on Long Island, NY where she worked as a bookkeeper for Kresge’s department stores. An avid gardener, bird watcher and sports fan she also enjoyed Saturday trips to Captree boat basin. After her retirement she moved to La Plata, MD.

In later years she moved to Charlottesville, VA where she was active at both Peace Lutheran Church in Charlottesville and Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville. She volunteered weekly in the “Tuesday Church” ministry at Grace Health and Rehab in Greene County. Those who knew her well would tell you that she had a lovely soprano voice, a kind smile and a strong faith.

Dorothy was a devoted and loving aunt to three nieces and one nephew and their spouses, 11 great nieces and nephews and their spouses and three great-great nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her surviving brother, sister-in-law, many dear friends, and those blessed to call her “Auntie”. Visitation with family and friends will be held in the Sanctuary of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, 550 Buck Mountain Rd in Earlysville, VA on February 18, 2019 from 5-7pm and at Hill and Wood 201 1st St N Charlottesville, VA on February 19, 2019 from 10-11am.

A memorial service will be held at Hill and Wood on February 19, 2019 at 11am. A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Hazleton, PA at a later date.
