Malcolm Melick Steck, Jr. October 02, 1927 – January 26, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Malcolm Melick Steck, Jr., age 91, of Palmyra, Virginia, formerly of Laurel Springs, New Jersey, passed away on January 26, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family in his home. Born October 2, 1927 in Camden, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Malcolm Melick Steck, Sr., and the late Sarah Graham Steck. Malcolm was about to celebrate 59 years of marriage this month with his beloved wife, Gertrude (Trudi) Steck (Huettner).

He was the wonderful father of Susan E. Steck of Charlottesville, Va. , Kenneth L. Steck of Palmyra, Va. , Erika S. Steck of Palmyra, Va.

, and Tania M. Hineline of Palmyra, Va. , and her husband, Mark E. Hineline. He was the very proud grandfather, “Pop Pop”, to Matthew E. Hineline and Bradley M. Hineline.

Malcolm spent his early life in Camden and Merchantville, N.J.; summers on the Susquehanna River; was a proud Boy Scout; received his degree in Journalism at Temple University and had a sports column in the Merchantville paper. Malcolm served two tours of duty in the Army during the Korean War. He was an avid sports fan and shared that love with his children taking them to Phillies and 76ers games.

Malcolm also enjoyed summer vacations in Ocean City, N.J., the Poconos and Long Lake, N.Y., with his extended family. Helping care for his grandsons was a great joy in his life. Malcolm will be forever remembered for the constant love, patience and caring he showed his family, through good times and difficult times.

He had an amazing ability to make us laugh, no matter what life brought us. We are so grateful and thankful to have had him in our lives. Malcolm will also be missed by his sister, Sarah Rogers of Winchester, Mass.

, along with many nieces and nephews. Malcolm was predeceased by his sister, Margaret S. Jakway and her husband, Edward; his sister, Mary S. Weiford and her husband, Richard; his brother, Duncan G. Steck; and brother-in-law, George C. Rogers. A memorial will be held in the spring of 2019.

It will be a celebration of Malcolm, who always enjoyed celebrating holidays, birthdays and life with his family. Condolences may be given at www. hillandwood.com.
