Maurice Garnett Conrad, Jr. May 11, 1924 – March 20, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Maurice Garnett Conrad, Jr., 94 of Troy, Virginia died on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at home. He was born May 11, 1924 in Palmyra, Virginia. He was the son of M. G. Conrad, Sr. and Ferol Conrad.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Ferol Conrad Seay and Janet Conrad Ballance. He was also predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Genevie B. Conrad and a grandson, Victor Breeden. Garnett spent the majority of his life in Fluvanna County.

He was proud to have served his country during World War II aboard the USS Yellowstone. He spent many years playing music with Conrad’s Orchestra, Palmyra String Band, and the Ranch Boys. He worked for many years for Charlottesville Oil and GOCO, Inc. before his retirement in 1986.

He worked with his son in residential home construction and then became manager of Misty Ridge Farm until he retired in 2018. Garnett is survived by his daughter, Judith Conrad Britt (Gary) and son, Maurie Conrad (Cookie), his grandchildren, Paul Britt (Heidi), Leeanna Britt, Melissa Conrad Johnson (Jay) and Amy Conrad Stokes (Aaron). He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, a nephew, Sonny Seay (Carolyn) and a special friend, Vickie Parr.

He was loved by many others in his extended family. The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Ruth and Melanie, and Dr. Jessica James. Mr. Conrad’s funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with graveside to follow officiated by Greg Wissinger.

A family visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 1794 Richmond Road, Troy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or International Rett Syndrome Foundation, 4600 Devitt Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45246.
