Dale Cook February 23, 1919 – March 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Erlon Dale Cook, 100, died March 2, 2019 in Charlottesville, Va. Dale was born February 23, 1919 in Wilton, Maine, the son of George Oliver Cook and Viola Howland Cook. Dale completed his initial formal education at Auburn Maine Commerce School.

He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was trained as a fighter pilot. Dale married Joyce Vivian McKeen in 1943 in Hollywood, California. After the war they settled in Palo Alto, California where Dale completed his accounting degree at Golden Gate College in San Francisco.

There they raised their family of three daughters, Carole Cook Phillips, now of Charlottesville, Va. , Marjorie Louise Cook, now of Arlington, Va. , and Rosemary Cook Johnson of Sonora, California, who preceded him in death in 2016.

Dale accepted the Lord Jesus through the ministry of Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, California. Subsequent accounting jobs took the Cooks to Cupertino, California, Portland, Maine, Sitka, Alaska, and homes in the towns of Blue Hill, Unity and Thorndike, Maine. Dale and Joyce moved to Charlottesville in 1996 and have been active in the First Baptist Church Park Street Senior’s Ministry.

Dale enjoyed church music and often sang in church choirs. In addition to his wife Joyce and daughters Carole and Marjorie, Dale is survived by two sons-in-law, David L. Phillips and Lawrence Lee Johnson; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Stapleton of Lexington, Ky. , David A. Phillips of Florence, Colo.

, Cathleen Phillips of Chicago, Ill. , Tiffany Johnson, Tod Johnson, Melody Ann Johnson, Alicia Joy Johnson, Lars Anderson Johnson, Jeremy Allen Johnson, Heather Marie Johnson and Karen Johnson Reyna, all of California; and ten great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019 at First Baptist Church.
