Jacqueline Gail Davis Metzger June 30, 1934 – May 24, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Jacqueline (Jackie) Gail Davis Metzger peacefully transitioned on Friday, May 24, 2019. She was born on June 30, 1934 in Charlottesville, VA. Jackie was raised by and preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Alexander Jackson Davis and Nora Lee Davis, nee Morris.

In June of 1952 Jackie graduated from Lane High School. On August 29, 1952 she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Metzger, and they moved to Baltimore, MD, where she worked at Western Electric for ten years. Her only child Stephanie Gail was born on February 7 in Baltimore.

The family briefly moved to Pittsburgh, PA and settled in Charlottesville in 1965. Jackie worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Wallace Forloines for 22 years until they both retired in 1990. Jackie was a devoted assistant and excelled in helping people relax and feel comfortable in the dental chair.

Her keen sense of humor and warm brown eyes were appreciated by many patients. After retirement, Jackie traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Hilton Head Island occupied a special place in her heart as she and Bob spent many weeks and holidays there with family and friends.

Jackie was a member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church and then Aldersgate UMC, and was a member of the Elks Lodge 389 Doe Club. Jackie was an avid UVA basketball fan. She was affectionately known as “Big Cat” to her caregivers at Our Lady of Peace.

In addition to her husband Bob and their daughter Stephanie, she is survived by her daughter-in-law Erin Jenkins of Maidens, VA; godson Lenwood (LA) Johnson of Fishersville; and a half-sister Gail Harris of Charlottesville. In life as in death, Jackie was true to the lyric of Frank Sinatra and did things “her way”.
