Julieta Ronquillo Zapanta Castro November 17, 1938 – May 04, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Julieta (Julie) Ronquillo Zapanta Castro, 80, joined the angels in heaven on May 4, 2019. Born November 17, 1938 in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines, she was the daughter of Reverend Bernardo C. Zapanta and Jacqueline R. Zapanta. She was preceded in death by Dr. Emmanuel F. Castro, her husband, of Manila, Philippines, New York, NY and Fredericksburg, VA; her sister Dr. Raquel LeGeros, and her brothers, Conrado and Salvador Zapanta.
After receiving her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, she worked for many years as a nutritionist at Mount Sinai Hospital and New York University Hospital in Manhattan. She brought comfort, cheer and compassion to patients and their families who were under her husband’s care at his medical clinic, and in her spare time assembled and directed countless children’s choirs and music ministries. Loved and adored by all who knew her, Julie let the light of Jesus Christ shine brightly through her, for everyone to see.
As a pastor, she travelled all over the Philippines to pray for the sick, coordinating medical missions to the farthest provinces, and providing food, water, clothing, education and toys for hundreds of the underserved children living in the streets. A special friend to all who met her, Julie shared her warmth, energy, kindness and humor with those around her, in any capacity, for as long as it took, wherever she was needed most. She was loved by everyone, and dearly missed by all.
Julie is survived by her children, her daughter Emlie, her husband Jodi and granddaughters Zoe, Jac, and Ava of Los Angeles, CA; her son Noel, his wife Kerry, and granddaughter Emma of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; her son Joel, his wife Leigh, and grandchildren Jocelyn, Vivian, Emmanuel, and James of Charlotte, NC, and her son Jed and his wife Stacie of Christiansburg, VA; Also, sisters, brothers and their spouses, Elizabeth and Manny Almagro, Conrad and Lita Zapanta, Noli and Fe Zapanta, Andy Zapanta, Cynthia Zapanta, and Zenne and Edwin Rinonos; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to family, friends, and the many healthcare professionals at University Hospital at the University of Virginia, and Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice Care, both in Charlottesville, Virginia. Your love, care and prayers helped her through the toughest days of her life.
Julie’s family will receive guests Friday, May 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, with memorial services on the following day, Saturday, May 11, at 11:00 AM, at Hill and Wood, 201 1stSt. North, Charlottesville, VA 22902 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Julie Z.
