Born May 10, 1926 in Buckingham County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Sidney Cabel and Bessie Jones Baber. She was also preceded in death by her eight brothers and sisters: Minnie Snoddy, Louise Snoddy, Bill Baber, Ernie Baber, Christine Johnson, Hay Baber, Janie Maupin and Sidney Baber.

Thelma graduated from Buckingham Central High School in 1943. Upon graduation, she moved to Charlottesville to work at The IX Silk Mill. On May 25, 1946, she married the love of her life Thomas Randolph Snoddy.

She worked various jobs in Charlottesville, including the pencil factory and telephone company. She also provided childcare for many years. In 1960 she began her career with Stanley Home Products, where she became a star salesperson.

At one time she had 14 people working under her supervision. Thelma was known far and wide as the “Stanley Lady,” excelling in her work and doing so with pride. Thelma attended Goshen Baptist Church and was baptized as a young girl.

She was a charter member of Belmont Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 14 years and served in various offices and capacities. She was best known as the person who greeted and openly welcomed everyone there each Sunday morning. She loved her church family just as she loved her own family.

Everyone entering the doors at Belmont was made to feel at home by her kind words and contagious smile. She served her Lord every day of her life. Thelma loved adventure and often traveled with her husband and family.

One of her fondest memories was attending President Lyndon Johnson’s Inauguration ball. She had a deep passion for gardening and her home and yard were always filled with flowers and plants she lovingly tended. Thelma was known for her witnessing to others, be it at the doctor’s office, grocery store or a restaurant.

She never met a stranger and never lacked the time to stop and talk with people, especially if she felt she could lead them to Christ. She loved spending time with Randy and greeting the customers at the family business, Davis Appliance Company LLC. No one entered the store, if she was present, without being greeted.

She loved making homemade preserves and cakes to share with her friends and you would rarely leave her house without one or the other. Thelma is survived by two sons, Randy Snoddy of Earlysville, and Ronnie Snoddy and his wife, Sandy, of Ruckersville; her daughter, Terry Lynn of Earlysville; her two precious grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Henderson and James “Jamie” Randolph Snoddy, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Thelma is also survived by many people whom she loved, cared for and respected.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the Belmont Baptist Church.
