Obituary for Dorothy Ellen Hodge Bruner Dorothy Ellen Hodge Bruner, 69, of Indian Head, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ, on Thurs. Oct 4, 2018, at her home while surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov.
25,1948 in Connellsville a daughter of Dorretta Woods Hodge of Connellsville and the late Jess W. Hodge. Dorothy was a graduate of Connellsville Area High School with the class of 1966. She was also a graduate of the Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1968.
She had worked as a Registered Nurse for the WVU Medical Center in West Virginia from 1968 to 1970. She later worked for the Connellsville Area School District from 1985 to 2012. She had been a member of the Indian Head Church of God since 1978.
She was active in the music department with singing and playing the keyboard, piano, and organ, and as choir director and music coordinator. She loved working with the children of the church in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and at summer church camp at Sonrise Mountain. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister.
Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved all activities involving her family (God is Good). Dorothy also loved playing and singing music and the outdoors(God’s wonderful creations). In addition to her mother Dorretta , Dorothy will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving husband of 50 years Dennis L. Bruner, her wonderful children David L.(Denise Beni) Bruner of Indian Head, Michael T.(Vynessa Kemp) Bruner D.C. of Connellsville, and Keith M.(Gemma Hostetter) Bruner V.M.D. of Lancaster, her beloved grandchildren Emily Renee Bruner and Seth Lamar Bruner both of Indian Head, Luke Michael Bruner and Hannah Kay Bruner both of Connellsville, and Caleb Linden Bruner, Elly Louise Bruner, and Aleah Kate Bruner all of Lancaster, her sister Janet H.(William C.) Burkhart of Scottdale, her brothers John E. (Virginia Patton) Hodge of Connellsville and Donald R.(Cynthia Whipkey) Hodge of Connellsville, her father-in-law Glenn L. Bruner of Indian Head, her brothers-in-law Danny L.(Ruth Ann Grimm) Bruner of Christiana, PA.
and Douglas L.(Sally Pfabe) Bruner of Indian Head, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her father Jess W. Hodge who passed away in 1980, Dorothy was predeceased by her mother-in-law Helen L. Bruner in 2006, her sister-in-law Karen Bruner Wilders in 1996, and her brother-in-law Richard Wilders in 1995. The family would like to give a special thanks to Amedysis Hospice and all of the nurses, especially Carol Rockwell, and also to Pastor Lee Maley and Dr. Paul Means.
Family and friends will be received Fri. from 6-9 PM and Sat. from 2-9 PM in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Rd.
