Obituary for Elizabeth L.”Betty” Macko On Friday, November 23, 2018, our wife and mother, Elizabeth “Betty” L Macko of Connellsville passed away peacefully while holding hands with her husband and surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Westmoreland Hospital, after fighting Myasthenia Gravis and Alzheimer’s. Betty was born April 8, 1932 in Monarch, the daughter of the late Emory and Elizabeth (Ondrish) Gulosh. She married Michael R. Macko in 1953, and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June.
Betty is survived by her daughters Mary Ann Gmutza and her partner Carl of Mount Pleasant and Renee Macko and her partner William of Greensburg. She was deeply loved by her grandchildren, Erin Gmutza, Sara Balling and her husband Ed, and Adam Gmutza and his fiancé Ferrell all of Uniontown, Sean Fagan and his wife MaryAnn of Butler, Pa, Emma Fagan and Kerry Fagan of Greensburg. Edward Balling Jr and Cassidy Fagan are her great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face.
Betty was a long time employee of Connellsville Sportswear in Connellsville. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Parish in Connellsville, . where she also was a member of the Christian Mothers.
Betty and Mike were members of the Slovak Club in Connellsville where they spent many nights dancing the polka, one of her favorite activities. She also was a past member of the NCO Wives Club while Mike was stationed in Hastings, NE. Along with her parents, Betty was predeceased by her sister Mildred Quinlan, and brothers Robert Gulosh and Francis Gulosh, as well as, two infant brothers.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, Inc. Connellsville on Tuesday, November 27 from 2:00-8:00 PM. A Blessing Service will be held at 9:30 A.M in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church on Wednesday, November 28 with Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant.
Interment will be at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown. Betty’s family is grateful to the staff at St Anne’s Home in Greensburg where she spent the last 11 months of her life. While there she managed to charm everyone.
