Dorothy Marie Hagerty June 08, 1931 – January 23, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Dorothy Marie Hagerty, 87, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at UnityPoint Health- Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant and Father Andy Upah as concelebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 3-6 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church with a Vigil Service and Rosary following at 6 PM. Dorothy was born on June 8, 1931, in Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Podhajsky) Svoboda. She attended rural schools in Carroll Township, graduating from Mount Mercy High School in Cedar Rapids in 1949 and attended one year at Mount Mercy College.

On February 16, 1954, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Hagerty at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. Dorothy taught country school for three years in Carroll Township and was a farm wife after her marriage raising six children on the farm. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama where she taught CCD and was on several church committees.

She held offices in St. Pat’s CCW and was an Eucharistic Minister at area nursing homes. Dorothy was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, baking, gardening, playing cards, and TV game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune.

Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family. Survivors include her children, Michael (Becky) Hagerty of Muscatine, Marilyn Hagerty of McAllen, TX, Roberta (Mike) Black of Oak Harbor, WA, Gery (Julie) Hagerty of Tama, daughter-in-law, Holly Hagerty of Warren, IL, and Cheryl (Tom) Larson of Roland; grandchildren, John (Kiley) Hagerty, Tom (Sarah) Hagerty, David (Mary) Hagerty, Matt (Jenny McCann) Black, Theresa (Corey) McCartney, Stephanie (Kevin) Bazzell, Taliah Black, Kelsey (Steve) Bankey, Shelley (Zach) Leiser, Alicia (Kyle) Disney, Lexie (Chad) Kurovski, Denyea (Brad) Auger, Hailey Hagerty, Emily Hagerty, and Will Larson; great-grandchildren, Michael McCann-Black, Henry, George, Adeline, Ellis and Lawrence Hagerty, Eli McCartney, Easton Bankey, Jaxon, Isaac and Dylan Leiser, Liam, Ethan, and Noah Bazzell, Greyson, Delaney, and Laurel Disney, Harley, Lorraine, and Scottie Kurovski, Ayden Williams, and Dwyer Auger; siblings, Martha Dolezal of Toledo, Ludmilla Perkins of Toledo, Bernard (Mary) Svoboda of Clutier, Laurence (Marlus) Svoboda of Clutier, and John (Marilyn) Svoboda of Clutier; sisters-in-law, Carole Svoboda of Toledo, and Loretta Campbell of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lawrence on February 18, 2017; son, Dennis Hagerty on February 25, 2017; infant daughter, Cynthia Marie in 1954; brother, Joseph Svoboda; sister-in-law, Irene Svoboda; and brothers-in-law, Joe Stadler, John Perkins and Charles Dolezal.

A memorial fund will be established in her name.
