Edna Elizabeth Kunkel, loving wife and mother of two sons, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the age of 94, at the Village at Brookwood. Edna was born on November 19, 1923 in Greenfield, Massachusetts to Stanley and Alexandra Gadomski. She graduated from Nursing School as a Registered Nurse, joined the US Army during World War II, serving as a 1st Lieutenant at the hospital in Udine, Italy where she met her future husband, Captain Charles E. “Ed” Kunkel.

Married for 68 years as… Read More » Ed pursued a career in the Army, Ed & Edna were stationed in Maryland, the Pentagon, Alabama, New York, Germany, Italy, and Michigan, finally retiring to North Carolina in 1987. Edna attended the University of Maryland, and while in Germany directed the American Red Cross Volunteer organization. Edna is survived by sons Karl and Conrad, daughter-in-law Carol, her sister, Amelia Irby of Newberry, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home of Burlington on Tuesday, September 11th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edna’s name may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
