Murphy, age 67, of Toms River, NJ passed away at Community Medical Center on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Ed was born on June 2, 1951 in Glen Ridge, NJ to the late Vincent and Lillian Murphy. During his career, Ed worked as an Earth Science Teacher and later in furniture sales.

Ed lived in Clifton for many years until relocating to Brick Township in 1982. During his leisure time Ed enjoyed collecting minerals, studying geology, and watching science fiction and comics. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Ed is survived by his former wife, Ellen Murphy; daughters, Christine Sommers and her husband Peter of Brick, Heather Murphy also of Brick; grandchildren, Abigail, Dominic and Bridget; one brother Greg Murphy and his wife JoAnne of Erial, NJ; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends for a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88 Brick, NJ 08724.
