Corky was born in Bowman on October 12, 1929, the daughter of Lambert and Amanda (Walker) Olson. The third of four children, she attended Bowman schools, graduating from Bowman High School with the Class of 1947. She married the love of her life, Earl “Red” Silha on June 14, 1947.
Corky and Red farmed in the Bowman/Scranton, North Dakota area their entire married life. Corky and Red were blessed with two sons, Lee and Lance. As a young woman, Corky enjoyed dancing, bowling, walking, and playing cards with friends.
She was also her mother’s best friend. As she got older, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in their sporting events and she was rarely without a set of knitting needles in her hands. She knitted many sweaters for family and friends and Christmas stockings for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
As she grew older she began playing bridge with her lady friends and the games that they played became a passion. She always enjoyed cooking and holiday meals where she could gather her family around her. She loved reading cookbooks and perusing all of the recipes that had the potential for her to try.
Corky and Red retired from farming in 1994 to live in Bowman. Red preceded Corky in death in May of 1995 and she continued to live in Bowman until moving to Glendive in 2011 because of health issues and to be closer to her son. While in Glendive, Corky became a college student at Dawson Community College, taking history classes, a subject she thoroughly enjoyed.
She loved to attend the DCC sporting events, especially the basketball games and it gave her great pleasure to participate in the “alumni night” events because of her status of having been a student there. She was an avid reader and read countless mystery novels, many times having three or four that she was reading at one time. Corky was the ultimate wife and mother and her family always came first.
She was forever interested in what was going on in her family’s lives and kept track of all that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. In February of 2016 she was blessed with her first great-great granddaughter whom she enjoyed immensely. Survivors include her son, Lance Silha and his wife Sandy of Glendive; daughter-in-law, Diane Silha of Bowman; five grandsons, Brent and his wife Heather of Glendive, Tyler and his wife Angie of Glendive, Blake and his wife Tara of Belgrade, Montana, Cooper and his wife Lisa of Bismarck, North Dakota and Walker and his girlfriend Amy Dilly of Bismarck; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Silha and Layna (Cody) Charlton of Billings, Montana, Jaden and Jaylene Silha of Glendive, and Lane, Colton, Easton, and Afton of Bismarck; and one great-great granddaughter, Paisley Charlton of Billings.
Corky was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers in infancy, an adolescent sister, and her son, Lee in 2007. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www. silhafuneralhomes.com and at: www.
