Obituary for ELEANOR WANGBERG (Hill) Eleanor Marie Wangberg, 89, of Croix St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, June 8, 2018 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone. Eleanor was born April 25, 1929 in Negaunee to William and Toini (Wertanen) Hill, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1947 and was a lifelong area resident. She was united in marriage to Keith Wangberg on February 26, 1949.

Aside from being a caring and devoted homemaker, Eleanor also co-operated Wangberg Electric in Negaunee for many years with her husband. Mrs. Wangberg was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Negaunee, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Negaunee Lady Elks. She enjoyed spending time at their camp on Johnson Lake with friends and family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Following their retirement, Keith and Eleanor, or “Miss Elly” as she was known by many, enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Keith; daughter, Peggy (Dennis) Carlyon of Rapid River; grandchildren: Jason Carlyon of Negaunee and Kristina (Adam) Cole of Ypsilanti; great-granddaughter, Julia Cole; brother, William ‘Bula’ (Carol Martin) Hill of Negaunee; sister, Susan LaRock of Rapid River; sister-in-law, Joyce Neely of Madison; and numerous special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Ione (Fred) LaCombe, Bernice (Bob) Koskinen, Edna (Byron) White and Jeannette (Ed) Polini; and three brothers-in-law: Gene LaRock, Ray Neely and Bill (Ruth) Wangberg.

Eleanor’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staffs at Eastwood Nursing Center, Lakeview Assisted Living and OSF Health and Hospice for their wonderful care provided. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 13th at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Jim Martindale officiating.

Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:30 am at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall immediately following. Pallbearers will be Jason Carlyon, Sean and Kevin LaRock, Adam Cole, Virgil Anderson and Bill Huot.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eleanor’s memory.
