Obituary of Eleanor Murphy Lyons Falls- Eleanor “Onnie” Murphy peacefully passed on February 19, 2018 at the age of 86. She was born in Fairport, NY on March 15, 1931 to Herman and Lucille Witt, who both preceded her in death. Eleanor graduated from Fairport High School in 1949 and was a devoted Lutheran.

After graduation, she worked at Kodak in Rochester for a short time before marrying her late husband, Robert Murphy. She had 2 children Cheryl (Steve) Coyne and Terry (John) Houghton. They traveled for a couple of years for Robert’s job and saw the U.S. from coast to coast.

They settled in Palmyra, NY and were the owners of the Tastee Freeze in Macedon and later moved in the 70’s to Old Forge, which they both loved. While there they owned and operated King’s Diner and served their famous roast beef sandwiches. They sold the business and retired to Oak Hill, Florida area and spent many years enjoying their pontoon boat.

They eventually returned to Lyons, NY in the early 2000’s to be closer to their children. After Bob’s passing in 2004, Eleanor returned to the Adirondacks to be even closer to her family. Eleanor loved to garden and bake; she could not wait for spring to arrive so she could get her garden tractor going.

You could always find her surrounded by beautiful flowers and vegetables at their best. She loved spending time with her family and always had the best cookies for all of the holidays. Eleanor had an extra special place in her heart for her youngest great grandson, Gaven.

You could always find them together, even if it was just to watch television. Eleanor is survived by her daughters Cheryl (Steve) Coyne and Terry (John) Houghton, her siblings Joyce Martin, Helen Mason and Robert (Sharon) Witt, a sister-in-law Margie Witt and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by Herbert Witt and Milly (Harvey) Rousseau and Dick Mason.

She has 7 grandchildren, Heather (Bryon) Griffin, Amber LaFountain, Nathan (Morgan) LaFountain, Tucker Houghton, Emma Houghton and Samuel Coyne along with 7 great grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Jordan and Gavin Griffin, Alexcia LaFountain and Kaidlyn and Dominick LaFountain. She will be missed for her kindness and smile, no matter what the situation was. There will be a Celebration of Life/Memorial on May 5th 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Wildwood Cemetery in Lyons Falls for both Eleanor and Robert Murphy.

Robert, who was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce, serving his county from 1950-1954, during the Korean Conflict, passed on May 22, 2004. Members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion Post # 406, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will meet in a group at Wild Wood Cemetery, on Saturday, May 5, to render Military Rites. Bob will be remembered as one who was a jack of all trades and offered a helping hand to many.

He loved his time on his boat on the river in Florida and Sundays, when Eleanor and he would watch the NASCAR races. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Lyons Falls or Port Leyden Ambulance Fund. The family is very thankful for all of their services and for being there for Eleanor every time she needed them.
