Obituary of Rita Kopczenski Boonville- Rita Jeanne Rubeor Kopczenski, 84, of Academy St., passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at the Abraham House of Utica, while surrounded by the loving care of her daughters. Rita was born in Rome, on June 17, 1934, a daughter of the late Clarence E. and Mildred V. Godkin Rubeor. At the age of nine she moved with her family from Forestport to Boonville, where she graduated from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1952.

On August 31, 1957, Rita was united in marriage with Chester Kopczenski, in Foresport. Thereafter the couple resided in Boonville, for many years on Church St., moving to Academy St, in 2000. Mr. Kopczenski passed away on March 27, 2004.

Rita was employed at Acme Markets, Boonville, A&P Stores of Syracuse, a telephone operator in Syracuse and as a school crossing guard in Boonville. Later for several years she was employed as a sales clerk at Shoemaker’s Liquor Store, Boonville and she also greatly enjoyed working with her husband Chet in his forestry business in the Boonville area. She attended Boonville United Methodist Church, and was a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a 50 year member of the Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Boonville.

Rita enjoyed being very involved in her daughter’s academic and sports activities and she volunteered generous amounts of time assisting the Adirondack Central Marching Band while her daughters were attending school. She also served as a volunteer at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where her bright demeanor and wonderful sense of humor were enjoyed by the staff and residents alike. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon West, Knoxville, TN and Lois Mock, Utica; one step-son, Stanley Kopczenski, Bradenton, FL; a granddaughter, Heather Mock, and her children, Hailey and Caiden, Utica; one grandson, Dereck Kopczenski, North Carolina, and one step grandson, Robert Kopczenski and family, of Oregon; one sister, M. Pege Bailey, Rolla, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and very special cousins, including, Richard Ritter and his wife, Eileen, North Carolina and Rita Merriam, Boonville.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Eileen Cornell, Jessie LaPatra and Shirley Salamey and two brothers, John E. and Clarence Rubeor. Rita was a dear and cherished friend to many; she is also survived by many dear friends including, David and Donna Douglas, Dorrinne Lyon, Carl and Diana Trainor, Betty Winters and Betty Yager. Her Funeral will be on Sunday at 4:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

Interment will be private in Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport. Memorial contributions may be made to The Abraham House Hospice Facility, 1203 Kemble St. Utica, NY 13501.
