Elfrieda Zerkel, 81, of Olney, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL. Elfrieda was born on November 25, 1937 in Altamont, IL, the daughter of Edwin E. and Emilie H. (Kroening) Becker. She married Ray Zerkel on December 29, 1963.

He survives her. Elfrieda was baptized, confirmed and married at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altamont, IL. She worked as a CNA for over 35 years.

Elfrieda enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining. She also took pleasure in gardening, square dancing, and playing cards with friends. Elfrieda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ray Zerkel of Olney; Son, Paul Zerkel and wife Dawn of Pleasant Plains, IL; Son, Jon Zerkel and wife Jane Ann of Effingham, IL; Son, Loren Zerkel and wife Melissa of Olney; Son, Lynn Zerkel and wife Michelle of Olney; Grandchildren, Isaac and Macy Zerkel Sisters, Bernice (Don) Grobengieser and Elaine (John) Fletemeyer; Sister-in-law, Marcella Wolf; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Norman Becker. Memorials can be made to Master’s Hands, Richland Co. Senior Citizens Center, or donor’s choice. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 25, 2019, at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM.

Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
