Elgie Gerst Chaney April 17, 1932 – December 20, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Deacon Elgie Gerst Chaney, Sr, 86, of 8045 Melon Rd. , Sutherlin, VA passed away, Thursday, December 20, 2018 at his residence. Born April 17, 1932 in Halifax County, VA, he was the son of the late Pleasant Lee Chaney and Ruby Henderson Chaney.

He was married to Carolyn Burgess Chaney, who survivors. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and the last of his generation. Survivors include two daughters Tanya Schonyers of Patterson, NJ, Gina Chaney Thomas of Plainfield, NJ, two sons, Keith Chaney of Sutherlin, VA and Troy Singley of Greensboro, NC, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one son, Elgie Chaney, Jr., seven sisters, Mamie Thomas, Ella Oliver, Lucille Chaney, Hallie Chaney, Agnes Chaney, Roxy Edmund, and Maddie Garrett, six brothers, Wilma Chaney, Willie Chaney, Andrew Chaney, Sherman Edmunds, Calvin Chaney, and John Brooks. The family will receive friends at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 6 PM with viewing from 5-6 PM at Christ Temple Apostolic Church with Pastor Bernard Curry, Eulogist, Interment will be Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10 AM at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
