Betty was born on June 3, 1934 in Watervliet, the daughter of Joseph and Grace (O’Neill) Zukowski. She was a graduate of Watervliet High School and was later employed by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles as an executive assistant.

She met the love of her life, Dr. Arsenio (Jerry) Agopovich, a widower, with two children, a son and a daughter. After seven months of courtship, they were married on July 25, 1969 in the Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Betty became a wife and a mother, a responsibility at which she excelled.

The children, Dr. John William (Billy) and Joanne loved her like a natural mother. Betty was predeceased by two older brothers, William and Robert Zukowski. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her siblings, Grace Rawson, Shirley Keegan and James Zukowski as well as several nieces and nephews, among whom she considered Diane (Bill) Corbett her favorite.

She is also survived by her special friend from childhood, Nancy Pascal. Betty and Jerry enjoyed playing golf at the Country Club of Troy and everyone at the club knew that Betty was a better golfer than her husband! They traveled frequently to medical meetings and to a golf resort in Bonita Springs, Florida as well as to Rome, Italy where Jerry’s parents lived.

Both her father-in-law and mother-in-law loved Betty like their own daughter and she was very close to her brother-in-law, Dr. Giovanni Agopovich of Rome, Italy. The countries they visited included Italy, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Greece and Turkey.

They also enjoyed frequently visiting Jerry’s uncle and cousins in Paris. Betty did volunteer work at Samaritan Hospital in Troy where she served as the president of the Auxiliary. She also enjoyed spending time as a literary volunteer.

She was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Troy. The family is grateful for the care Betty received at N.Y. Oncology of Clifton Park and from Dr. Charles Weisman. A special thank you is also extended to Dr. Ronald Musto, Dr. P. Chava and to the nurses and staff at Samaritan Hospital and especially at Eddy Heritage House.
