Emily Coats Smith, March 29, 1935 — February 20, 2019

Emily Coats Smith Springhill, LA Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Coats Smith , age 83, will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Springhill, LA, with Rev. John Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery, under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 22, 2019, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was born on March 29, 1935 to Ernest and Hugh D. Coats in Delhi, LA and passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Springhill, LA. She loved the Lord, was a faithful, life long member of Calvary Baptist Church and served in many positions there.

She enjoyed woodworking, arts, crafts and loved painting. She was also known for her cooking, had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She was a talented seamstress and stayed busy sewing for family and friends.

She and Mr. Smith, before his passing, were Senior Friends volunteers at Springhill Medical Center. Emily, honoring her mother’s example, was a loyal listener. Her greatest joy came, spending time with the love of her life of 67 years, Billy, and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Teri L. Collins and husband, Chris of Overland Park, KS, Cynthia Covington and husband, Freddy of Springhill, LA; son, Randy Smith and wife, Denise of Monroe, LA; six grandchildren, Luke Thompson, P.J. Kuddes, Megan Perry, Peyton Smith, Emily Covington and Tyler Covington; five great-grandchildren, Graham Thompson, Cece Thompson, Rivers Perry, Vivian Perry and Eli Covington. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Billy Boyd Smith. Pallbearers will be Peyton Smith, Tyler Covington, Luke Thompson, Aaron Kuddes, Freddy Covington, Chris Collins and J.W. Perry.
