Emma Jackson January 28, 1941 – December 22, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Emma was the second child of the union of Owen Brown and Emma Holmes Brown, born on January 28th in the city of New York. Emma spent many happy childhood years in the Harlem River Houses with her sisters, Joan, Yvonne, Judy and their loving doting mother. She was educated in the New York City public school system and graduated from Washington Irving High School.

Subsequently, Emma met and married her husband of many years, Louis Jackson, and of this union was born two beautiful daughters, Selene and Deneen. In later years she was fortunate to become the mother of four additional children totaling her mothering skills to six children. She had a close relationship with all of her nieces and nephews.

Emma received the gift of the Holy Ghost early in life and was a faithful member of the Greater Refuge Temple right up to her passing. Shortly after receiving the right hand of fellowship, she joined the Sunday school and one would often see her bringing her girls to be in church and taught the word of God. She was a faithful member of the Radio Choir for over 25 years and only relinquished her position in the alto section of the choir as her family grew larger.

She was appointed president of the Youth Department by our late pastor, W. L. Bonner and under her leadership the department flourished. She was also a Lifetime Member of the International Women’s Council. Emma loved life and she loved to travel.

In the 1980’s she was blessed to go to Senegal, Africa with the late Mother Ethel Mae Bonner, Sister Linda Satterwhite and many members of the Greater Refuge Temple. She went on several cruises and traveled with her family to Ocean City, Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, Las Vegas, Nevada and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, just to name a few places. Emma is preceded in death by her sister, Novenna Judith (Judy); and survives by her loving husband, Louis; her children, Selene, Deneen, Lawrence, Unique, Norwood, and Capri; two sisters, Joan Macafity of New York City and Yvonne Fuller of Baltimore, Maryland, (Ronald); one sister-in-law, Sonia Archer of St. Thomas, Virgin, Islands; four grandchildren, Janette, Kevin, Michael and Navenna; one great granddaughter, Jayla; and a dear longtime friend, Gwendolyn Gainer.

Also left to mourn her memory are a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and a church family that will miss her dearly.
