Ervin’s Obituary Ervin Duane Rewerts, age 74, of Outing, Minnesota, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Melvin and Jennie Mae (Hook) Rewerts on June 4, 1944, at DeBoer Sisters Maternity Home in Aplington. In 1962, Ervin graduated from Wellsburg High School in Wellsburg, Iowa. On April 19, 1963, Ervin was united in marriage with Marcella (Sally) Karlene Kalkwarf at Kesley Presbyterian Church in Kesley, Iowa.

After their marriage, the couple lived in Wellsburg where Ervin worked at Beving Hardware in Wellsburg. He also helped at the funeral home. In 1968, Ervin and Sally moved to a farm south of Aplington and Ervin began farming.

Ervin also worked at Farmland Foods in Iowa Falls, Iowa, for 24 years. From 1978 to 1987, the couple owned and operated the “Wagon Wheel” western store in Aplington. In 2005, Ervin retired from farming and in 2011, Ervin and Sally moved to Outing, Minnesota.

Ervin was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in rural Wellsburg where he served as trustee and overseer of all the physical needs of the church. After moving to Minnesota, they attended Emily Methodist Church, where Ervin served as a trustee. Ervin was baptized as a baby in rural Wellsburg and then again as an adult in Roosevelt Lake in Outing.

Ervin and Sally began going to a seasonal resort in Nevis, Minnesota in 1993, where he enjoyed fishing. Ervin also enjoyed riding horses and hunting. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, and maintained CRP acres for wildlife.

Ervin had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others. He annually bought several hundred pounds of potatoes and gave them away to the food bank, family and friends. He also had apple trees and a garden from which he shared his produce.

Ervin’s greatest joy was time spent with his family. Ervin died unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday, February 8, 2019, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Ervin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sally Rewerts of Outing, Minnesota; one son, Rick (Patti) Rewerts of East Bethel, Minnesota; two daughters, Cindy (Dave) Hartman of Byron, Illinois and Tammy (Ryan) Sicard of Ackley, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Holly Rudh, Diana Hlinsky, Jason Rewerts, Kristy (Nolan) McMurray, Kelly Reinke, Kyle Reinke, Ashley Sicard, and Rachel Sicard; five great grandchildren, Isaiah, Keely, Colin, Liam and Samuel; and one brother, Larry (Mildred) Rewerts of Aplington. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, at the Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington, with burial in the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Cemetery, in rural Wellsburg. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and one hour before services at the church.
