Esther Grilli Sabol , October 21, 1938 — March 02, 2019

Poland – Esther Sabol, 80, of Struthers, died Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2019 at The Inn at Poland Way. Esther was born October 21, 1938 in Hillsville, PA, a daughter of the late Bellino and Anna Notareschi Grilli. A 1956 graduate of Bessemer High School, Esther was a service representative for Ohio Bell for two years.

Through friends at Ohio Bell, Esther met her husband James Sabol (a life-long resident of Struthers and an Ohio Bell employee) at a dance. They were married April 18, 1959 and made their home in Struthers. A devoted homemaker, Esther made a loving home for her family.

After her family was raised she decided to return to work, first at Wittenauers Drug Store in Poland and later Northeast Ohio Cardiology. While her children were school age, Esther was an active member of the Holy Trinity PTA. She especially enjoyed attending her children, and later grandchildren’s activities.

After retirement, Esther and Jim enjoyed traveling. Esther was a member of 500 Card Club and several bowling teams. Her favorite past times include crafts, shopping and last, but not least, trips to the casinos and gambling.

Esther was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. Esther and Jim enjoyed 55 years of marriage until his passing, March 10, 2015. Esther leaves to carry on her memory, one daughter, Leanne (Al) Franceschelli of Poland; two sons, Brian (Marcia) Sabol of Poland and David (Kathleen) Sabol of Austintown; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Nicholas and Michael Franceschelli, Greg, Anna, Carolyn and Sarah Sabol; two sisters, Joann Grilli of New York City and Mary Anne (Ed) Shebert of Marco Island, FL; brother-in-law George (Pat) Sabol of Struthers; sister-in-law, Dolores (Bill) Ulicny also of Struthers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be held Thursday, 9:45 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Deacon John Terranova officiating. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Esther’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Barillare and her office staff, the staff at the Inn at Poland Way and Hospice of the Valley.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Esther’s memory be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512.
