North Lima-On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Marjorie McKinven Arroyo, age 95, died peacefully at Assumption Village, North Lima, OH. She was born Marjorie McKinven in Wampum, PA, on October 17, 1923, a daughter of the late Alexander and Florence Weitz McKinven. She was a 1941 graduate of South High School in Youngstown, OH.

Marjorie received her BA degree from Ohio State in 1946 and a BS degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1959. She married Gerardo Arroyo in 1946; they lived in Puerto Rico and Shelbyville, IN, and had three sons. Gerardo, a veterinarian, had his life tragically cut short by a heart attack in 1952.

Returning to the Youngstown area, Marjorie served as a dedicated and compassionate teacher in the Lincoln, Garfield, and Bennett Elementary Schools for 29 years until she retired from the teaching profession in 1985. Throughout her life, Marjorie remained interested in a wide range of subjects, including history, literature, and art. She was very skilled in needlework and created works of great beauty and complexity.

She was also an avid genealogist who did extensive research on her family’s history. She always strived to remain positive and interested in the lives of others. Marjorie is survived by her son, Nelson (Laurie) Arroyo of Placentia, CA, and their children Sara Beth and Cullen Stewart.

Besides her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by sons Alexander and Robert and her brother John McKinven. The family wishes to thank Marjorie’s friends Janet Strycott, Patricia Caldrone, and Linda Gianoglio for their decades of love and care: their enduring presence in Marjorie’s life brightened her days. The wonderful caregivers of Assumption Village and Hospice of the Valley are also to be thanked for their sustained, thoughtful service.

There will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be held at a later date at Clinton Cemetery, Wampum, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Assumption Village, 9800 Market St., North Lima, OH 44452 and Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
