Obituary for Esther Ruth (Hartman) Draves Esther Ruth (Hartman) Draves, 85, of Murphysboro passed away peacefully at 7:21 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Esther was born on May 28, 1932, near Chester in Randolph County, IL, a daughter to the late Albert C. and Ruth M. (Welge) Hartman. She was united in marriage to Roger Lee Draves on October 22, 1955, in Chester, IL.
They enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. Esther was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. Many residents will remember her from the 20 years she worked as a dental assistant.
A talented seamstress, she shared that talent with others freely and often. She also loved working in her flower gardens and caring for her family. Her second family was the friends she and Roger made in Lake San Marino, Naples, Florida.
In the over 20 years they wintered there, they were deeply immersed in the community. Pool exercises, walking, weekly church services, and being known as “the smoothest dance partners” in the park, they greatly enjoyed their life there. She will be greatly missed by the LSM community as she missed not being able to be with them this winter.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. Rev. Josemon Hoem will officiate.
Burial will follow at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School and will be accepted at the church or funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Draves of Murphysboro; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Scott and Valerie Draves and Steven Draves all of Murphysboro; two grandsons, Eric (Jenna) Draves of Chesterfield, MO, and Mitchell Draves of St. Louis, MO; and one sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and John Dilday of Rockwood, IL.
