Evelyn “Eve” Beatrice Walker was 1 of 9 children born to the late James Ernest Jennings and Katie Bell Killebrew Jennings on 7/23/34 in Philadelphia, PA. Although born in Philadelphia, the family home was in Rosemont, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. Of the 9 children only 4 survived beyond childhood.

Evelyn was the youngest of the 4 with the other 3 being: Joseph, Mildred and Mittie. During her growing up years, Evelyn was footloose and fancy free but always worked hard. She enjoyed good times with her life long friends Mary and Winnie.

After several changes in employment Evelyn decided to improve her education and attend night school; obtaining her GED in 1972. A few years later she decided education was the ticket and enrolled in business at the Philadelphia Community College where she received certification in business. In 1989 she began employment with the Federal Government, Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Philadelphia, PA.

In 1992 due to downsizing, rather than be unemployed, at age 58 Evelyn accepted a transfer to Columbus, OH. While employed in Ohio she received several awards for Excellence in Service. On 7/31/07, at age 73, Evelyn retired from her position as Accounts Payable Clerk.

We then loaded up the truck and moved her to her new home in North Apollo, PA. In her retiring years, Evelyn enjoyed family outings and loved to cook for her daughter and son-in-law. From the time she retired in 2007 until Charita’s retirement in 2016 she prepared weekday “take out” meals.

Charita would stop on her way home from work and pick-up the evening meal at Eve’s “Food Shack”. On Thursday, April 26, 2018 after a lengthy battle trying to recover from major surgery, Evelyn succumbed. She was at the Life Care Unit of the Allegheny Valley Hospital.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Katie and James Jennings, son Anthony Eric Walker, brother Joseph Jennings, and sister Mittie Jennings. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Charita (Alan) Cox, sister, Mildred Graham, 6 grandchildren: Antoinette, Khalief, Khaliel, Anthony, Ashley and Cherie, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday May 4, 2018 from 4:00P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the New Life Baptist Church, 319 N. Second Street, Apollo, PA 15613.

A Home Going Service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday May 5, 2018 with Reverend June Jeffries officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kelly L. Corridoni Funeral Home Ltd. 1916 Moore Ave. North Apollo.
