Obituary for Fred McLaughlin Greene Fred McLaughlin Greene of Powder Springs, Georgia has now embarked on his most thrilling adventure: entering into eternity with his Heavenly Father. Fred was a unique and vibrant man who was able to say a passionate “yes” to all this life had to offer while always straining toward heaven through his profound faith in Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. In this life, Fred enjoyed sky diving, hot-air ballooning, scuba diving, cave diving, hiking, rock climbing, hang gliding, spelunking, wind surfing, crystal hunting, cold mountain stream dunking, skate boarding, roller blading, roller coaster riding, cruising, swimming with sting rays, and hunting rattlesnakes.

He went on numerous cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska with Nena, his beloved wife of 33 years–as well as solo adventures to destinations such as Iceland and Bangkok, Thailand. But, with all of his travels, two of Fred’s favorite destinations remained watching a storm surrounded by his family at St. George Island, Florida and telling stories around the campfire with all the boys in the swamp at Sugar Creek at the McLaughlin home place. In the picture above, Fred was diving at age 82 in Ginnie Springs, Florida.

Currently, Fred has embarked on the cruise of cruises in the great blue beyond. In his spare time, he can be found spelunking in black holes and sky diving to the stars. Some of Fred’s greatest attributes were his magnetic personality, his passion, his stories, and his all-encompassing love.

Fred reveled in the wonders of God’s creation: he marveled at the beauty of a sunset and always looked out for the first daffodil of spring. And, once Fred knew you, you were forever a part of him, forever a part of his family. Raised in Marietta, Georgia, Fred felt the call to serve the Lord early and ministered to people from all walks of life throughout his 84 years.

He was baptized alongside his brother, Frank, at Roswell Street Baptist Church in 1948 and attended Marietta High School. Fred also served our country in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Fred was ultimately ordained as a minister in Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia in 1985.

One of Fred’s special spiritual gifts was ministering to the sick, dying, and grieving. He spent countless hours by the bedside of friends and family and attended the funerals of anyone he knew while he was able. Fred was not scared of death, but saw it as the natural transition from this world to the next.

Today he is having a party in Heaven with many that he helped lead to faith in Jesus Christ. While Fred knew that he was far from perfect in this world, the Holy Spirit blessed him with the insight to know that he had been made perfect through the blood of Jesus Christ and continually challenged us to see ourselves as God sees his children through Christ—as perfect. Most recently, Fred was inspired by the teachings of Les Feldick and enjoyed discussing new spiritual insights with family and friends.

Fred had many jobs in his life, but, most notably, he was a successful realtor for many years who helped transform Cobb County into the metro-Atlanta suburban hub that it is today. While selling a “dream home” to many families, Fred passed from this life surrounded by his loving family in his “dream home” at 2598 Greene’s Lane where he lived for 58 years. For the past five years, Fred met the ravages of Parkinson’s Disease head-on with courage, stamina, faith, and almost other-worldly strength.

To all who cheered him, comforted him, and cared for him in this time, Fred says: “You are wonderful! Thank you! ” Fred leaves a legacy of love on this earth for his devoted brother, Frank Greene; his beloved wife, Nena Atkins Greene; and his dynamic children and their spouses: Michalle Tucker (David); Tom Greene (Kristen); Deborah Noland (Mark); and Kimberly Angle (Marshall).

He is also survived by his loving niece and nephews and their children: Heidi Stager (Greg); Scott Greene (Donna); and Danny Greene (Amber); as well as his cherished grandchildren: Taylor Cuthbertson Lopez (Rey); Chesna Greene; Jessica Tucker Wyatt (Matt); Averie Greene; Anna Tucker; Connor Noland; Maslyn Greene; Lochlan Angle, and Elaina Angle. Fred was able to enjoy his first great-grandchild, Brooke Wyatt, while relishing the hope of more to come. Of course, because of the way Fred loved with his whole heart, his list of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren include many more than we can list here today—but you all know who you are and how much you are loved by Fred.

We rejoice today that Fred is now reunited in his ultimate “dream home” with son, Fred McLaughlin Greene, Jr (Mac); his parents, Thomas and Vivian Greene; and countless family and friends. And we celebrate today that Fred has entered the kingdom of his Heavenly Father with the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant”. A memorial service will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home on Macland Road in Powder Springs at 2:00 on Tuesday July 24th and may be streamed on-line.

Fred will be buried beside his parents in Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta around Thanksgiving with an additional Memorial Service so stay in touch with Nena Greene for details.
