Obituary for Dorothy G Rooker Dorothy Cunningham Gilmer Rooker (“Dottie”), passed away peacefully on July 1, 2018, at home. She was born June 11, 1944, in Tampa, Florida to Ben Screws Gilmer and Dorothy Cunningham Gilmer. She was a graduate of The Westminster Schools and Hollins College.

She married Penn Winston Rooker, October 9, 1965, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was an avid needlepointer who created beautiful pieces for family, friends, and churches. Dottie was an officer of the Atlanta Junior League and volunteered at Egleston Children’s Hospital.

She loved spending time with her family and friends. Dottie had a loving heart that made you feel a part of her life as soon as you met her. She is survived by her husband, Penn W. Rooker, her sons: Penn W. Rooker, Jr. and Ben Gilmer Rooker, and her four grandchildren: Brittany Lee Rooker, Robert Winston Rooker, Jewell Cunningham Rooker, and Ben Charles Rooker.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins, 180 Church Street NE in Marietta. A memorial service will be held at Midway Presbyterian Church in Powder Springs on Friday, July 6 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Dottie’s memory to Calvary Children’s Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Road in Powder Springs.
