Obituary for Freddie Lyn Chance Burnham Freddie Lyn Chance Burnham, 91, of The Woodlands, TX, formerly of Laurel, died peacefully Wednesday, October 10, 2018. The 6th child of Walter and Ebbie Chance, Freddie spent her younger years in Hazlehurst, MS, moving to Laurel when her parents gave up farming. Freddie graduated from George S. Gardiner High in 1946 where she was an Honor Roll student.
On November 14, 1948, she married David Andrew Burnham, Jr They settled in Laurel and enjoyed 59 years together. They relocated to Texas in 2006 to be near their children.
Freddie loved math which landed her a job at Boyd & White Insurance Agency and later, with Laurel Federal Savings & Loan Association. She retired from Laurel Federal in March 1992 after 33 years of service. Freddie was an active member of Second Avenue Baptist Church, Plainway Baptist Church and West Laurel Baptist Church.
After moving to The Woodlands, she and Dave joined Cornerstone Baptist Church. She later moved her membership back to West Laurel as she truly felt that was her church home no matter where she lived. Freddie loved to cook for her family and enjoyed traveling with Dave, visiting many locations in the US, Canada and Europe.
Freddie was preceded in death by her husband, David Andrew Burnham, Jr., parents, Walter Chance and Ebbie Beasley Chance, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her daughter Mary Catherine (Cathy)Tompkins (Lynn), son David Alan Burnham (Charlotte), 4 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 4 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter all of Texas. Also, her sister Margaret Chance Metz of Gulfport, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Tompkins, Brad Tompkins, Brent Tompkins, Casey Wheeler, Tyler Wheeler, and Austin Tompkins. Honorary pallbearer will be Mason Castaneda. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 16 at 10 am followed by service at 12 pm the same day at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, Laurel.
