Frederick Curtiss Steele, 83, of Auburndale, FL passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Lakeland Regional Health in Lakeland, FL. Born June 25, 1935 in Sunbury, PA he moved to Auburndale, FL twenty years ago from Selinsgrove, PA where he retired after managing numerous Sherwin Williams paint stores over a 24 year career. He was an active council member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sunbury, PA and a council member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, FL.

Fred’s number one joy was gardening and he loved hockey and card games. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. Fred was a lifelong volunteer, including thirteen years at the Watson Clinic in Lakeland, FL.

Fred served on the Polk County Sheriff’s citizen patrol in the Hamptons community where he lived. Fred is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Margaret; and two sons, Brian Steele and his wife Dr. MaryKay Powell of Kalamazoo, MI and Scott Steele of Northumberland, PA. A Memorial Service will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date.
